What are the main effects of filing bankruptcy under Chapter 13?

Well, a bankruptcy under a 13 will allow for an automatic stay, just like a Chapter 7. It would stop any wage garnishment, any creditor lawsuits, any creditor phone calls and things, and the Chapter 13 plan would give an opportunity for someone to catch up on arrears, for a mortgage if they are behind, for a car to keep it from being repossessed, and so some of the advantages of filing a 13 or having that plan to provide adequate protection to keep your car, keep your home, in a bankruptcy but yet still get a full discharge of credit card debt, medical debt, and other unsecured debts.
